ASLA Correction

PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) - LASEK or surface ablation involves first removing the very top surface layer of the cornea (the epitherium) then applying the laser beam directly onto the corneal surface.

The surface layer is then repositioned over the cornea. Sometimes this can be difficult due to the very thin nature of the pseudo flap and is best to be completely removed.

By not creating a flap the visual recovery is slower and can be more uncomfortable.

This refractive treatment is specifically used when a cornea shows some irregularities, has a fragile surface, or is considered too thin for Lasik. It is a similar procedure to LASIK with a slower healing time.
